Reading: This week, we will continue our work on "Readers Use Strategies to Read". The students will review and learn more strategies to practice during independent reading, such as Eagle Eye (look at the picture), Lips the Fish (get your mouth ready by making the first sound of the word), Stretchy the Snake (stretch out the word slowly), Chunky Monkey (looking for words you know inside other words), and Flippy the Dolphin (flip a short sound to a long song).

Writing: This week, we will continue to work on Persuasive Writing. Children will reach different audiences, and come up with solutions to make the world a better place! In addition, children will fix their work to get ready for publishing.

Reading: We are continuing our work on Readers Use Strategies to Read. This week the students will learn that readers make their reading sound like their talking (fluency) by reading words together, and that readers work with their reading buddies to help figure out tricky words.

Writing: This week, we are continuing our work on Persuasive Writing. Children will be writing letters that reach readers, and studying a mentor text.

This week the students will learn to use many strategies all together to become a good reader, practice reading books again and again with more power to make them sound better, and think about what is happening page by page when they read to see if their thinking was right (comprehension).

Reading: We are continuing our work on Readers Use Strategies to Read. This week the students will learn to use the pictures to make their best guess, and notice words that repeat in text to read with fluency. In addition, students will use previously taught strategies to become a good reader.

Writing: We are continuing our work on Persuasive Writing. Students will form opinions, and create thinking maps about their opinion. They will orally share how their opinion will sound as a letter. The children have learned that there are many kinds of persuasive writing (letter, list, and sign), and they have had an opportunity to write them all in the past two weeks. Now we will begin to focus on writing letters to make a change.

Reading: We are continuing our work on Readers Use Strategies to Read. This week the students will learn to match their mouths to the sound of the first letter in the word, reread to give tricky words another try, use the pictures to make their best guess and notice words that repeat in text and read those lines quickly. They are growing into such amazing readers and are very proud of themselves! Make sure you listen to them while they use these new strategies at home.

Writing: We began our new unit on Persuasive writing last week by forming an opinion about books that we read in school. The children learned there are many kinds of persuasive writing, and they will have an opportunity to write them all in this unit. This week we are going to spend a lot of time giving reasons why we formed an opinion, and sharing the reasons orally with the class.

Reading: This week, we are launching a new unit called Readers Use Strategies to Read. The students will be working on thinking about the books they are reading and pointing to the words as they read, making a movie in their minds about what they are reading, and reading words they know well in a "snap".

Writing: The students completed their Buddy Biographies! We are so proud of their awesome work- make sure to check out the boards in the hallway!

We will be starting our Opinion Writing unit this week. We will be studying mentor texts all week to help form opinions about books.

Reading: This week, we will be reading George Washington’s Teeth. This story is a fun tale about what happened to George Washington’s teeth. We will be using the timeline at the end of the story, making text to self connections, and comparing this biography to another familiar biography we have recently read.

Writing: The students will continue to work on their Buddy Biographies. The students will be fixing up their work, and coloring their pictures (publishing) to prepare to share them with the class. Their finished product will be displayed in the hallway.

Writing: The students will continue to work on their Buddy Biographies. The students will take their note pages and turn them into published pages to include in their biography. Students will also fix their work and get ready to publish their biographies.
