Reading –
We will begin our new nonfiction unit on Community helpers. We will read nonfiction text to help us gain a better understanding of community helpers and their vital roles in our community. As we read we will focus on nonfiction text features. Writing –
We will immerse in our new unit on community helpers. We will use the interview questions gathered over the break to focus on a particular community helper. We will conduct research using nonfiction text to find more information on a community helper Math –
We will conclude our unit on counting numbers 11-20. Students should be familiar with identifying numbers 11-20 in word form and number form. Students should be able to use a place value chart too help them identify how many tens and ones are in a “teen number”. Please use the reference chart stapled on the back of your child’s HW notebook and this week’s math homework as study tools.
Phonics: We are going to work on the words on the “ot “ family, as well as review our sight words put, take, every, old, and by. grammar: This week we will concentrate on capitalization.

Reading –
We have concluded our nonfiction unit on animals. We will review essential topics that were learned throughout this unit. We will review text features such as, table of contents, heading, glossary, diagram and captions. Writing –
We have concluded our nonfiction writing unit. We worked really hard putting our book together. We will celebrate our accomplishment by displaying our “All About” book on the bulletin board for all to see and learn about our animal. Math –
We will continue to work with numbers 11-20. We will use a place value chart to help us identify tens place and ones place. We will also use the word form of a number to determine which number is greater and which number is the least. Please review the word form for numbers 11-20. You may use the reference chart that was attached at the beginning of the unit to your child’s homework notebook as a guide. Students should be able to identify that 11 is eleven, 12 is twelve etc.

We are enjoying our nonfiction writing unit. We have been working hard on our draft. This week we will focus on finding fascinating facts as well as wondrous words in our animal books. We will create our glossary page for our All About books.

Math –
We will continue our new unit on counting numbers 11-20. Students will be familiar with identifying numbers 11-20 in word form and number form. Students will use their knowledge of number bonds to create number bonds for numbers 11-20. This week we will use a place value chart too help us identify how many tens and ones are in our “teen number”.

Phonics: We are going to work on the words on the “in “ family, as well as review our sight words some, as, then, could, and when.

Please make sure your child studies the math handouts and the previous review packet. Please ensure that your child uses the number line strategy to help them figure out a subtraction sentence.
