Week of May 9, 2016
Reading- We will begin reading “Mr. Docker is Off His Rocker” by Dan Gutman. We will work on identifying story elements within the text such as problem/solution, and setting. We will be working on short paragraphs and questioning techniques to help us learn how to find answers on tests.
Writing- We will complete our writing unit; Opinion Writing. The students will write self reflections on their work, as well as peer reflections of a classmate.
Math- The students will be learning about graphing using collecting data and using tally marks.
Social Studies- In Social Studies, we will continue to learn about New York City long ago. We will learn about the Dutch and English in NY and how the city grew over time.
Science- We will continue to learn about Living and Non-Living things. We will learn about fish and their body parts.
All words have ate, ake, ale or ame in them.
Trip slip for Queens Museum due by tomorrow. $5.00 needs to be sent in as well.
Thursday is Parent Conferences from 4:30-7:30. They are informal and don’t require an appointment. I will let you know your child’s reading level and how they are doing so far in 2nd grade. Everyone is welcome inside the room, as it is a relaxed atmosphere. 🙂
Please send in 2 glue sticks with your child.
