Week of January 18, 2016

Reading- We will review and discuss our reading about John F. Kennedy as part of our Biography unit. We will review his life and important facts and events. The students really were interested in learning all about him and events that took place at this time (World War 2 involving Pearl Harbor and segregation). We will also be reading our own biography research.

Writing- We will be using our biography research to learn all about our famous person. We will be working on gathering important facts of their lives. We will be creating a tree map to organize these facts into the person’s early life, middle years and later years. ALL research was due by January 8th.

Math- The students will continue to learn how to multiply using skip counting and making arrays. They will review the 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and have a quiz on Tuesday. Please review these facts with your child as well. We have begun to learn other times tables as well. We will be using these facts in word problems to and focus on how to explain our work.

Social Studies- In Social Studies, we will start to learn about how New York City changed over time. We will focus on the early years of our city.
