WEEKLY HOMEWORK:

MONDAY:
Reading: Read for 10 minutes and record it on your reading log. Writing:
Weekly Journal entry due on Friday. Complete the following writing prompt in your Homework Notebook: Community helpers are important because ___. Write at least 4-6 sentences. Spelling:
Choose a spelling menu activity. Complete this activity in your Homework Notebook.
Sight Words: Day one: trace your new sight words and cut out the flash cards. Make sure to put the flash cards in a Ziploc. TUESDAY:
Reading: Read for 10 minutes and record it on your reading log. Writing:
Weekly Journal entry due on Friday.
Spelling: Choose a spelling menu activity. Complete this activity in your Homework Notebook. Math: Complete the math problems.
Sight Words: Day 2- Write your sight words and review your flash cards.

WEDNESDAY:
Complete the homework packet.

Reading: Read for 10 minutes and record it on your reading log. Complete the Reading Response sheet. Writing: Weekly Journal entry due on Friday.
Spelling: Choose a spelling menu activity. Complete this activity in your Homework Notebook. Math: Complete the math problems. Math test is on Friday.
Sight Words: Day 3- Write your sight words again and review your flash cards. THURSDAY:
Reading: Read for 10 minutes and record it on your reading log. Writing: Weekly Journal entry due on Friday.
Spelling: Study for tomorrow’s spelling test.
Math: Study for your math test. Complete the math problems.
Sight Words: Day 4- Review your sight words. Fold the page and test yourself.

Reading –
We will begin our new nonfiction unit on Community helpers. We will read nonfiction text to help us gain a better understanding of community helpers and their vital roles in our community. As we read we will focus on nonfiction text features. Writing –
We will immerse in our new unit on community helpers. We will use the interview questions gathered over the break to focus on a particular community helper. We will conduct research using nonfiction text to find more information on a community helper Math –
We will conclude our unit on counting numbers 11-20. Students should be familiar with identifying numbers 11-20 in word form and number form. Students should be able to use a place value chart too help them identify how many tens and ones are in a “teen number”. Please use the reference chart stapled on the back of your child’s HW notebook and this week’s math homework as study tools.
Phonics: We are going to work on the words on the “ot “ family, as well as review our sight words put, take, every, old, and by. grammar: This week we will concentrate on capitalization.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
School will be closed on Monday, January 18 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Picture Retake will be on Wednesday, January 20.
